::General
This program presents you a new way of guiding you
through the process of loging in to a Novell server.
In most cases, Full Screen Login will be a convenience
to use, because fields like Servername and Userid can
be pre-filled with a default by the system
administrator.
In the latter case you only have to type the password
and press the enter key to login.
However, the real strength of this program is
informing you when you are not able to login at all.
Various accounting and security exceptions and,
possibly, even network errors can prevent access to
your server. In that case Full Screen Login will
present you in clear text what is wrong.
::Server
Depending on the version of the Novell Network
Operating System, the Login menu can show a Server
field or an Location field. When a Server field is
presented, you have the option to login to one
particular server in the network. When NetWare version
4 is being used, the Location field can be presented,
thereby giving you the option to login to the Network
instead of one particular server.
The Server field should be filled in with the name of
the server to which you want to login. In a
multiserver environment you can use the ServerList
function (the F5 functionkey) to get an overview of
all or a selected set of available servers in the
network.
The system administrator can pre-fill this field with
a default server name, so you don't have to type a
name at all, unless you want to change it.
::Location
The location. also called Context, defines a certain
position in a NetWare Directory Services Tree. All
Servers, Groups and Users are defined in this
Directory Tree and with the proper Access Rights, you
can access the recourse that are defined in this
Directory Tree.
The purpose of the Directory Tree is to give you one
place to login into the network and access all your
resources from that point.
The Location field can be used to change the relative
position of this workstation in the Directory Tree.
The Location field presents you with a default for the
particular PC you are working at, but this default can
be changed to the correct 'context' for you to login
to the network.
::Userid
It's obvious that the Userid you want to use should be
entered here. Like the Location field, a default
Userid can be presented to you. When this default is
not the one that you want right now, move the
highlight (the grey bar) with the Up arrow key to the
Userid field and type another.
You can use several editing keys like Home, Left
arrow, Right Arrow and End to move the cursor back and
forth.
When your userid is typed in, press the Enter key or
the Down Arrow key to move the cursor to the Password
field.
::Password
Type the password that belongs to the Userid that has
been specified above. For security reasons this is a
so called 'dark' field. This means that when you type
characters, they do not actually show up on the
screen.
'Dark' fields make it less easy to correct a typing
error. When in doubt, it's easier to retype the
password from scratch, instead trying to correct it.
To do this, simply press the Home key to erase the
password field and type the complete password again
from the beginning. When ready press the Enter key and
if all is okay you will be logged in now.
::Change Your Password
Once in a while a password should be changed. You can
change your current password to something new at the
moment you login. All you have to do is fill in the
Login Data window with the usual information and press
the F6 function key INSTEAD of the Enter key. FSLOGIN
will prompt you for a new password now.
::Password Expired
The Novell security system can force a periodic change
of a password. Full Screen Login will tell you about
this before your password actually expires.
It is up to you to change the old for something new,
although login with the old password is still possible
when the actual expiration date has not been passed.
When your password expires, however, you must change
it.
Attempts to bypass the Novell security system will
lock your Userid and you will have to consult your
system administrator or Helpdesk!
::Function Keys
F1=Help
Presents this help. You can browse through the text
with the Up Arrow, Down Arrow, Page Up and Page Down
keys. However, by reading this you possibly already
discovered that. You can leave the online help by
pressing the Escape key.
F2=Info
The Info function key displays license information
about the current license as well as address
information about Confirm. You can use this
information for all your correspondence with Confirm.
F4=Switch
The Switch function key switches between a bindery
based server connection and a Directory Services based
connection. This feature makes it possible to override
the default configuration of the Novell Client
software. The Switch function can only be used when
the Novell client software supports both Bindery and
Directory connections.
F5=ServerList or DirectoryList
When you press this key a list of all or a selected
set of servers in the network will show up. When
working with a NetWare Directory tree, the F5 function
key will show a list with Directory objects, through
which you can browse. The ServerList or DirectoryList
makes it easy to get an overview of the network and to
select your position in it.
F6=ChangePassword
The F6 function key can be used to change the current
password. Fill in the Login Data window with
information like Location (or Server), Userid and
Password and press the F6 function key instead of the
Enter key.
F10=SelectContext
When a DirectoryList is being displayed, a new Context
can be made active by highlighting the name and
pressing the F10 function key. The new context is
presented in the Location field and is used for
subsequent login.
::Company Defined
The OpenHelp system makes it possible to customise the
help items. Multiple help items can be defined in the
file FSLOGIN.INI in the SYS:LOGIN directory.
